Introduction
Unless otherwise specified in their employment agreement, every team member who works for the Company is entitled to Bereavement Leave after six (6) months' current continuous service.
Bereavement Leave
Bereavement Leave of three (3) days' at a time may be taken at relevant daily pay or average daily pay. This leave will be granted to any team member who has suffered the death of:
a spouse or partner
parent
mother-in-law or father-in-law
child (including miscarriage)
brother or sister
grandparent or grandchild
niece or nephew
brother-in-law or sister-in-law
paternal or maternal aunt or uncle
Additional Leave
Where there is a multiple fatality the team member is entitled to three (3) days' bereavement leave in respect of each death. Requests for additional Bereavement Leave, over and above this, on a paid or unpaid basis, shall be at the sole discretion of the Company.
Using Leave
Team members do not have to use bereavement leave immediately, or on consecutive days, or use it at all. Team members may use bereavement leave over time to attend unveilings or funerals or memorial services. All bereavement leave must be discussed with the Manager prior to using it.
Bereavement Leave For Non-Immediate Family
In the event of a death outside the immediately family that the employer considers an team member has genuinely suffered a bereavement, one day of paid leave may be taken at the employer’s discretion. Prior approval for this leave is required.
In determining whether a team member has suffered a bereavement, the employer will consider:
Pay Rate
For each day of Bereavement Leave taken, the Company will pay the team member the amount equivalent to the pay at the relevant daily pay or average daily pay for the number of hours that the team member normally works on that day.
